The ETSI SDG OpenSlice (OSL) has released its second major version of OSL (Release 2024Q4) with Key Highlights on integrating monitoring solutions within the service lifecycle, enabling efficient closed-loop management as well asย ๐—ž๐˜‚๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€ support extension on delivering major enhancements to the Custom Resource (CR) orchestration logic as well as incorporation of newย ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ฒย ๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป andย ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐˜ย ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—ฒ๐—ฟย ๐—”๐—ฃ๐—œ๐˜€. FIDAL directly contributed to the Kubernetes extensions and the Custom Resource orchestration logic as well as the Product layer APIs, since these features were developed to support the offerings of Kubernetes related resources as a service to experimenters.

This release introduces:

  • Optimized Resource Orchestration: Enhancements to resource orchestration for improved efficiency.

  • Enhanced Integration with Modern Telco Tools: Better integration with contemporary telecommunications tools, including support for CAMARA and TM Forum Operate APIs.

  • Streamlined Deployment and Monitoring Processes: Simplified deployment and monitoring processes to ensure that OpenSlice remains at the forefront of addressing the requirements of both research and industry sectors.

These advancements establish a replicable functionality benchmark for supporting and exposing the capabilities of a modern Operator Platform. Additionally, the release facilitates telco cloud scenarios through synergies with LF Sylva, leveraging the potential of contemporary, open, and standardized APIs.
