SNS JU Announces €128 Million for 6G Research in 2025

The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) has published its Annual Work Programme (AWP) 2025, allocating €128 million in EU funding to advance 6G research and innovation. This initiative strengthens Europe’s leadership in Beyond 5G and 6G technologies while promoting digital sovereignty and sustainability.

Key Focus Areas

The funding will support three research streams:

  • Advanced 6G Research on disruptive technologies and wireless communications

  • 6G Telco Cloud & Service Platforms to develop experimental infrastructures

  • Large-Scale Trials & Pilots in industries such as manufacturing, media, automotive, transport, health, and safety services

Strategic Priorities

The 2025 programme aligns with key European digital infrastructure goals, focusing on:

  • 6G standardisation, supporting 3GPP’s study phase in 2025

  • Telco Edge-Cloud advancements, enabling seamless connectivity

  • Integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks

  • Global collaboration, particularly with the US through the EU-US Trade & Technology Council

Since its launch, SNS JU has invested over €500 million in Beyond 5G and 6G research. The fourth SNS JU funding call will open in 2025, with an Information Day in early 2025.
